These silver birch trees probably would have had many more years of life but unfortunately by the time we got to them they were badly decayed due to poor pruning in the past.

Silver birch trees can be temperamental and unlike many other species, they have to be pruned in later summer or early autumn to stay healthy. Decay can quickly set in if the trees are pruned in early spring.
