It's easy to understand how the Lombardy poplar became so popular in the UK. Introduced in the 18th century, it became a popular tree for lining riverbanks or screening the grounds of country houses.
It's flexibility and suitability for UK conditions, along with it's fast growth has made it a firm favorite and you'll often see them planted closely in a row.
In this particular location the tree had outgrown its neighbours and so required some work to reduce. Easily scalable but you certainly need sea legs when you get up there - they do sway nicely!
