Firstly, if you do have a conifer that's got to this size it's a good idea to get a tree surgeon to have a look at reducing it at least.
In this particular case it became apparent very quickly that there was nothing else for it but to fell the tree.
The two main trunks of the tree had a very large split at the base which meant a hugely increased risk of the tree falling at any time.
