It's a pity when we have to fell a tree but unfortunately this one couldn't be saved.

Tree cavities can provide useful refuges for wildlife and we always do all we can to save trees, especially Ash. It's a fact though, that Ash trees can decay very quickly and in this case it had got the point where the tree was seen as a danger and would have been unlikely to make it through next autumn or winter.
