...well this was one unfortunate case of a decayed tree simply snapping in moderately windy and damp weather. Once the core of a tree's trunk simply rots away, there's very little to hold it up. This was a relatively small tree but still big enough to send the car to the scrapyard. Luckily it was only a car that was damaged. The tree, in a Nottingham garden, had been pollarded years ago but it had died-off in the intervening years.

This incident really does display the need for trees to be surveyed regularly when they show signs of decay or when close to buildings and public spaces.
